The Definitive Map of the Vote
This is the map of the vote I wanted. A county-by-county look at how they voted. Putting to end forever the misconception of "red states vs. blue states." All counties are a shade of purple, though a surprising number of counties really are blue or red.

Robjert J. Vanderbei created the now famous "Purple Haze" Maps of the Vote, and has done himself one better now creating a county-by-county version. Now you know where your neighbors really stand.

The full 1546x1053 version is available on his website. Election 2004 Results.

Suresh Venkatasubramanian created a cartogram version where the size of each county corresponds to the size of the population.

1690x990 version available on his site The Geomblog: The 'Purple Haze', revisited.
