The Rebel Sell
If we all hate consumerism, how come we can't stop shopping?

One day I found myself sitting in the parking lot of a large multinational bank, waiting for my friend. I was reading a book of interviews with Noam Chomsky called "Secrets, Lies and Democracy." The idea for a book flashed in to my mind. Something that conveyed some of the ideas of this book, but in story form.

About a month later I saw Fight Club and I thought to myself Chuck Palahniuk wrote my book. But the end was all wrong. It's like Daniel Quinn said in Ishmael - you can't escape the cage if you don't know what or where the bars are.

The article The Rebel Sell, and the related book Nation of Rebels get closer, but it's conclusions are all wrong too. Legislation is not the answer.

Maybe I'll get around to writing that book one day... Maybe.
