| Pettycoat and the Bay
First time I saw pettycoat was back in the day...during my post-rave hangover days, when the local bands like Dead Air (John now in Candiria) and Disgrace roamed the landscape. It must have been at this venue over by the UA, at the piers -- Pettycoat was the only non hardcore band playing. Let's see you had Disgrace, Inhuman, Enemy Within and Pettycoat. What a night. May have actually been one of the first times I actually attended a local show besides Dead Air. A very interesting mix of folks -- some kids I still run into. Most of us have survived I think (although Botox may be closer than any of us like to admit). I had known Mark back in high school and I think we jammed and even recorded some symphonic bass orchestration on a 4 track in 1995. I knew Christina even further back than that, probably early nineties -- her and Dawn actually both, they roamed the streets learning guitar and U2 songs. The music is great, even nowadays, her voice is very distinct and the band tight. As a kid everyone wants to be a rockstar so generally we tend to be very critical. I know I was. Overtime though you grow to just admire the music and listening to their songs now, you sort of wish they were on some Romantic Comedy soundtrack starring John Cusak. -8bit Cihan K. |

| Just ten years late
A fan who was only ten years late and several thousand miles out of place. Now clutching the Pettycoat recordings within my highly fussy mp3 collection. I would say Pettycoat sounds something like a 3am phone call to Bettie Serveert (another great band.) For me, a lot of these songs characterise that hyper- emotion feeling you can get when you're really tired. Moments range from sleepy-subdued, through to angsty railings. Thanks for the music, Mark Major |
